Question:

Help planning my eighth grade graduation party?

I’m an eighth grader in Illinois who is graduating in a few weeks. My parents said that they would give me a graduation party, and I need help planning it.

My grandmother lives two doors down from me, and she has a large backyard and pool, both of which I can use for my party. Between my house and my grandmother’s house is my aunt and uncle’s house, which I do not want to use for the party. Some of the party can also be at my house, which has a smaller backyard than my grandmother’s. I need ideas of what to eat, activities, alternatives to a professional DJ, what to wear (casual dress?), something commemorative for guests to sign, small thank you gifts (maybe), something for the other eighth graders to do, and any other suggestions. I don't care how large or small the ideas are, I just need some different ideas to get my party planning started. For the best answer I will give you a good rating, as well as 10 extra points if you can tell me how to transfer them. Thanks!

  1. For my eight grade graduation party, I hosted it at my house/backyard. My mom purchased a huge tent that was placed in our backyard and we put tables, chairs, and patio furniture underneath. We put all the food inside, right next to our back door, it was like a buffet. For the music, we just blasted B96 on the radio; after that got old, we started playing CD's.

Casual is definately the way to go. Casual dress, flip flops, and maybe a bathing suit underneath if you decide to take a dip in the pool with your friends.

My cousin actually had everyone sign a huge poster board (about 4 ft high x 7 ft wide) and she had it framed and put up in her room. You can have the board cut into a cool shape, like a heart.

As for activities, you can always play pool games (marco polo, chicken fights, water volleyball, etc.). Pool games are easy to look up on the internet.

Food is always the most important part of a party, so if you're inviting a lot of guests, then I suggest you buy a variety of appetizers. There's no need to go all out, 13 year-olds are pretty easy to please if the food is good. Pizza/Pizza Rolls are always a must. Chicken wings and hot dogs are good too. You can buy some pasta or lasagna, mini sandwiches, nachos, mozzarella sticks, cookies, chips, meatballs, etc. Junk food!

If you'd like more idea's, feel free to e-mail/message me! I live in Illinois too, lol.

  2. you could get tee-shirts for everyone and tie dye them together. then when they're dry you can take turns signing each others with permanent markers. its a good way to get everyone involved and have memories of 8th grade. the pool is definitely a good idea maybe have some water balloons too. For my birthday parties i used to put little toys into the water balloons that could be used as party favors once they broke open. pinatas are always fun too as well as make your own ice cream sundae. alternatives to the dj- have everyone bring their favorite cd and play them throughout the party or just hook your ipod up to speakers and put it on shuffle.
