I this is my big cousins account but i'm just borrowing it while she's at her 2 day Hunter Event.

But she has a riding school/livery yard which my mum and me and the staff are looking after just now when she's away. But theirs this girl and she's 15 and isn't a lightweight, i think she's a spoilt brat. But she wanted a horse and her mum asked my big cousin to find her one, she gave her £5000 to get one. My cousin tried to persuede her to mabye wait awehile but no. Me big cuz hasn't got time really so i'm trying to help her.

The girl is...

15

11 stone

5,7ft

Novice Level

She also wanted a fluffy horse because she was riding my cousins 15.2hh cob who has loads of feather!

I selected these horses for her...

She will be getting lessons with her own horse. And will be supervised at all times because it's going to be on my cousins livery. Oh and the girl wanted a mare but thats kinda tuff. I think Candy would be the best choice for her as she's big feathered, mare and bombproof.

Thanks for answering my question and also if you know of any other horses for sale matching this description please post a link! =]

  1. Ok, right off the bat, no to the second one(the gelding). It's a 5 year old. And he's new to jumping. If her riding ability is a problem, she would have so many issues it would be sad.

I like Candy too, however both her and the other mare are big. Yes, I know you said she's a larger girl, however, big horses can intimidate people very easily. I think the Shire mare might even be a better choice, as I see no indication that Candy can jump, and the Shire mare can go up a little way in the levels. The only thing I can foresee being a problem besides the horse's size, is the kind of jumping but that's up to her, and your cousin.

I think you have found 2 very good horses, (the mares) but should go back and look for horses not based on the description she gave you(for appearance. disregard "fluffy" and mare for a while). look for older horses(for sure nothing under 7, preferably 9 or over), and keep in mind that a nice, teenaged horse is a wonderful first horse.

    Good luck.

  2. hi some of theose horses seem a little bit young and possibly inexperienced try:

  3. Candy seems like the best horse I would say. She is the most beautiful and sounds like she would be best for your rider.

  4. I like the first or third one. The second is not suitable for a novice rider.

  5. Sorry, but 11 stone (154 pounds) isn't that heavy. You don't need to be looking at huge draft horses for her. She is not the equivalent of a knight in full plate mail or a laden wagon.

Start with temperament and abilities first, then narrow down based on fit and other more superficial characteristics.

  6. Out of those three I would have to say the 2nd one. A shire or clydesdale is just not a good idea. Saying that the 2nd one is a bit young. It would be a much better idea to just get a cobby mix or even a draught cross. Cerainly not a pure bred draught.

I think something like this would be much better.

  7. I agree with you!  Candy is a lovely horse.  I'm not into the draft breeds myself but even I must admit that she's a beauty.  I think it'd be good for her because you said she is a novice rider.  What does she want though?

  8. i like all of these horses, for me, but not for a novice rider. i would choose the third horse listed, the mare.she seems very gentle, and shes beautiful. i would not go with the second listed because hes young, and still in schooling. even though its good to grow with a horse, this horse doesn't seem as though hes been around the block a few times, so he would be much greener than the other two. but it really depends on how well the rider does. if you could go and test the horses, you would be able to make a better decision.

  9. i like the 3rd or 2nd one

  10. i would go with the third one he seems alot quite than the other to and he is a nice lookin horse the second one would probly be a bit small since she likes the big one and the fist isnt as quite as the other to by the looks of things

  11. Yep! That Candy is a doll and seems to be as gentle and as comfortable as a La-Z-Boy lounger. If I would ever buy a great big draft horse it would be a laid-back compliant cutie like Candy.
