  1. Every college will vary; Harvard obviously costs much more than my school, Boise State! The following info is based on MY school, but will be pretty similiar across the country, to use as a ballpark figure...

Mine is a small university. It costs about $200/credit. Most classes are 3 credits, so maybe $600 per class. A typical class is one hour per week per credit. Therefore, if I take a 3-credit history class, I might go for 3 hours every Monday. Or I might go for one hour on Monday Wednesday and Friday. Make sense? Keep in mind that some classes are worth less credits, and some science classes that require a seperate lab are worth 4 credits, but the 3-credit class will give you a good idea of what you'll pay and how much time it'll take.

A Bachelor's degree requires 128 credits. A full-time student takes 12+ credits each semester, and a half-time studen takes 6-11. If you take 5 or less per semester, you cannot receive a Pell Grant, which is the free money you can receive from the government to pay for college.

I attend school full-time, and my tuition is about $2100 per semester, plus around $250 per semester for books. I receive much more than this in the form of Pell Grants and student loans, so I am able to pay for college entirely, and use the extra money for rent, food and such. We are a family of 5, and my husband makes a decent, middle-class income, and yet I still qualify for this aid, which shows that college is very feasible economically for many people who might not think they can do it. You do not have to be very rich or very poor.

How long? A Bachelor's (BA or BS) is designed to take 4 years, but you can take longer or get it done sooner, depending on how many classes you take. An Associate's degree is a 2-year degree. You can get this through a university or a community college. The income earned with this degree will be less, but it takes less time.

Times? My school is open 7 days a week, and classes going from 7:40 am to 9:00 pm. I myself have been attending 6-9 pm classes while my kids were at home, and will now begin day classes as well now that they are all in school. You can earn a degree around a variety of work schedules.

Most colleges will have their specific information on their website; look for sections such as "Prospective Students" "Future Students" or "Admissions." I will provide you with the link for my school, to give you one example of tuitions. Also, going to school in the state you reside in is much cheaper than going out of state, since most schools give discounts to local residents.

I hope this helps, and I apologize if I "overexplained" LOL!

  2. for me to o to college.. it is $500per credit hour! a loT!!

    college board should have it

  3. Try going to Collegeboard.com.  Or you can look up the web page of a college.  You might have the best luck looking up Community Colleges, as they have a lot of information on line.

  4. There's no one answer to that question.  Some colleges charge by the credit, others by the semester, no matter how many credits you take in that semester.  Some colleges don't do semesters, but quarters or trimesters, so that affects the cost and worth of the credit.

In general, if you don't attend a private school, expect to pay a few hundred bucks a credit for about 3 hours of class a week, for one semester (late Aug - Dec or Jan - May).
