Help please, math question about gas?

Okay so I need to pay my friend for a ride to wor kevery day and we're trying to figure up how muc h I should pay him. His car gets about 20 miles to the gallon. Gas here is about 4.00 a gallon. His house is only 1/4 of a mile fro mmy house, so how much money in gas does it take him to go from his house to mine?

  1. 4 $ per gallon  & 20 miles per gallon

    That equal to $0.20 per mile.

    One quarter of that is $0.05 (nickle) to drive 1/4 of a mile.

    But you should also add things like maintenance, insurance, etc.  So the government has something called standard mileage.

  2. What you should pay him is for half of the drive to work, not just the drive to your house. Gas and maintenance included. The two of you should sit down and figure out a fair price.
