Animal behaviors?

1. arise from an interaction between genes and the environment.

2. do not affect an individuals chances of survival.

I am thinking that it is # 2

It's #1. #2 is false because animals behave the way they do only because it helps them to survive and reproduce. They respond to their environment by translating their genes.

its number 1, there is arguments between nature (genes) vs nurture (environment) which is applied to human and animal behaviour.  but most people believe that behaviour is based on a mixture of nature and nurture.
