Number of dependents means how many people you support. If you have 2 children then you have 2 dependents. If you are single then you have 0 dependents.

people under the age of 18 that you are legally caring for. Unless you are taking care of a disabled adult that can be considered your dependent. P.S. your spouse is not a dependent.
