  1. Cuban missile crisis not as simple as Alfred makes it.  The USSR was starting to build the missile site, when the crisis began.   Kennedy moved naval ships toward the missile-site-to-be.  Russia's Kruschev decided to back down, though the US still had nuclear missiles in Turkey - that could endanger all of the USSR.

K took a lot of heat for this, and as a result had to resign - a liberal, reforming ruler was replaced by a nasty conservative one, Breznev.  K had been trying to make Russia more like a Western country, but as a result of the crisis, was replaced by someone determined on taking a hard-line with the US - and so, Communism and the COld war were prolonged.

The crisis did not affect our relations with Cuba, as it was between Russia and the US.

  2. WW3 almost started with mother Russia! Cuban Missile Crisis. The USSR was shipping Nuclear Missiles to Cuba, Kennedy saw this and basically said that if you do not get that **** outta here we are going to bomb you back to the stone age. Kind of the reason we do not deal with Cuba.
