I've started running again (after quitting smoking, I have to keep saying that it feels great! :) and I've started to get a strong aching pain on the top of my foot into the front of my ankle? I'm not sure if I'm running correctly? I used to get a pain in my knee and someone advised me that It could be because I was landing on my heels, so I tried changing to landing more on the ball/flat of my foot? could it be that? Gave it a rest for 2 days and then went out today and it's still there. I only do short runs (about 2 miles) but try to go every day for around 20 minutes. I'd like to run for a bit longer but I'm still only just getting used to going out again and don't want to injure anything. Please help, Could anyone give me any advice? Thanks x

p.s I run on pavement and there are lots of hills. The grounds pretty uneven.

  1. you need to run on your toes well not actually your toes but on the tops of your feet. you'll create damage if you continue running on your heels. it could also be the type of shoes your wearing. maybe change them. and also ice your foot after each run if it continues to hurt go and see your doctor.

  2. ice, aspirin, and rest.

  3. Well, don't land on the heel of your foot. Kind of lean forward not backward, and land on the balls of your feet. The knee pain might be arthritis, i have arthritis in my knees and get the same pain. I still run though because it only comes when i have been running all day or run uphill. The same thing for the anke and foot, it is just from running uphill. When you are running on uneven ground, lean forward a little, it will help. I hope this helps. For pain issues, bend your knee a lot till it feels better, and the same for the ankle.

  4. it might be the uneven ground ???

warm up / stretch more effectively ??
