Question:

Help please Mandrivia ISO & md5

I just downloaded the file to install Mandrivia (Linux) and I think I managed to write this ISO to a CD.

Currently I can't get my Windows computer to boot from the CD so I thought I would check the contents of the CD. I got md5summer and I can run it. However as I don't know what I am looking for it hasn't helped me much.

I didn't get an MD5 when I downloaded the ISO (mandriva-linux-one-2008-spring-KDE-int-... nor when I used the ISO to create the CD using ISO recorder.

Please can somebody either tell me what should be on the CD or help me with the md5 information?

  1. There should have been a m5d when you burned the cd. So a good chance the disk is bad if you didn't get one. How did you burn your ISO to disk.

  2. OK. You should burn the disk at 4X and verify the contents afterwards.

if you downloaded this ISO from a trusted source, you shouldnt need to worry about the md5 checksum!

    (where did you download this)

To boot from the CD, you need to change the boot priority in the BIOS.

When you first turn on your PC, (black screen, white writing) hold F2 or DEL. (it displays what to hold in the corner, something like "press F2 for setup)

Then look for "boot sequence" once in the BIOS.

change it so CD-ROM is first, then maybe hard drive for the second option.

    save it and exit.

    Your PC should re-boot.

Then it will search the CD-ROM drive FIRST for an operating system, if it finds one, it will boot it!

Did you get the right kind for your PC. x86_64bit will only work on a 64bit machine for example.

make sure you get the DVD. instead of the CD's.

are you using DVD blank disk's for CD images.

i usually use UltraISO or Nero.

put the disk in the disk drive, and boot windows or whatever.

are the files and folders on the disk, not the actual image ISO file.

bittorrent is the best way to download these.

yeah i think i found your problem.

the image you downloaded mentions KDE. Is this not just the K desktop environment!

(which i would assume is not bootable!)

    try;

    2008-spring-dvd-i586.iso          or

    2008-spring-dvd-x86_64.iso
