I am trying to find information on my great grandmother and I have looked everywhere in the library books at chruches called all the archives in Louisiana and ancestry.com and I cant find anything on her except her marriage certificate, i need her baptism or something about her parents, all of her siblings are listed everywhere I have looked but I cant find anything other than her marriage certificate. I find her name listed with her brothers and sisters when they where small but I need something that has he and her parents listed together and I have searched her parents and still none of the kids show up listed with them. She was born in 1892 and died in 1971. Is there somewhere I am not looking or something else I can do or someone to talk to?? Please help and give some direction if you can. thanks!!!

  1. Try the census, you may have to go through it page by page because sometimes names were spelled wrong.

But the 1890 census is not complete.

  2. Did you try the US 1910 or 1920 Census?  If you edit your question with stating her name, someone will probably find something.

  3. If she was Catholic, have you tried getting her marriage records from the parish where she married.  This will probably show the parish of baptism and probably has the parents' names.Ask them to give you all the information that have.    Just be sure and send them a contribution. It takes time for the parish personnel to look up the records and provide them to you.

  4. Your best bet is to check the U.S. Census records starting in 1890 (if she was not the oldest child) and go up through 1900, 1910, and possibly 1920.

  5. First of all we'd need to know what information you have.

What is her name, date of birth, place of birth, date of death, place of death.

Next when and where was the marriage? To whom.

You found her with her brothers and sisters when they were small, what kind of record did you find them in?

If she was born in 1892 then she will be in the 1900 census with her parents as a 6 year old. It could be you can't find her because of a transcription error. Without the name I can't give you any alternate spelling suggestions.

Dying in 1971 means she should be in the social security death index. You can send for her SS information and that should have her parents listed. Most death certificates also list parents but that is often third hand information and not reliable.

If you have the marriage certificate you might be able to send for the marriage license which will have more information.

With more information we can help you more.
