My family and I are supposed to be leaving for Orlando, FL tomorrow til the 23rd. We're leaving out of Bradly Int'l, CT. We're extremely concerned about tropical storm Fay and don't know if we should cancel the vacation. Any suggestions? What would you do?

  1. I wouldn't worry too much. First of all, Fay still needs some time to get here (I live in Florida), she needs to strengthen, and - most importantly - she needs to find out where she is going. All this takes time. Right now, nobody knows where she will make landfall. She might just get weaker, or not get near Florida at all. It all depends on wind shear, jet stream, water temperature and so on. All this said, let's just say she makes landfall in Florida while you are still here (very unlikely!), and lets say she'll head straight towards Orlando - you still don't need to worry. Especially not if she is only a Cat 2 or 3. Orlando is far enough inland, that you'll only have rain, strong winds and thunderstorms. I spent a night at a motel on the east coast of Florida when a hurricane made landfall. We had power outages, strong wind and rain. Some of the palm trees lost their frawns, but that happens all the time anyway.

I just checked the weather map again, and right now Fay looks like she'll just go between Cuba and Jamaica, then head up the west coast of Florida. Which means I get more of Fay then you. And just so you know, if Fay is heading towards Tampa, I'm outta here. And usually, I'll go to Orlando when we're threatened with a hurricane. It's a safe place to wait out a storm.

  2. Disney does not close for rain.  There are many indoor attractions.  Even most of the outdoor attractions remain open unless there are thunderstorms or heavy downpours.  Just throw on a poncho and keep having fun!

  3. Orlando is pretty inland and I have been there many times during hurricain season and been fortunate enough not to have more than a little rain. In August it rais usually late afternoon anyway. Go and have an awesome time, we will be there on the 24th

  4. GO.

the parks don't close for rain.

infact since disney world opened in 1977 an disney has only every closed its parks 3 times for huricanes and once due to 9/11 cuz they feared that terrorists may attack the parks.

now think that disney is open 365 days a year and has been open for 41 years and has only closed 4 times ever.

they won't be closing due to a lot of rain.

and there are plenty of things to do that aren't out in the rain. really the only rides that while there is a threat of lightening you can't go on are the outdoors ones which would be:

    splash mountain

    thunder mountain

    test track since its indoor/outdoor

    expedition everest.

pretty much everything else in disney world is either inside or under a shelter of some sort.

all you need is to make sure you bring rain ponchos, and an extra pair of sneakers, and maybe some sandals.

believe me its still worth going.

you will have the time of your life.

  5. well from the way it looks fay will be riding the west coast! That could change by tonight its so hard to tell.

The parks will not close due to rain. Now if they see that the hurricane will effect them they will close the place down if u purchased tickets on line already I am sure they will give u your money back or tickets for another day due to fay

    Have fun
