  1. it is called a striger and it doesnt mean your board will break easily. do you have a fiberglass or epoxy board. the stringer is easier to see in fiberglass boards because they are made of wood. in epoxy boards the stringer is usually made of the epoxy so it wount be as easy to see. i hope this helps

  2. The other guys already gave the right word, stringer". It adds strength and helps the board return to it's natural position when it flexes. Some epoxy boards don't have stringers. But even some great old boards had none. I have a 40 year old Weber Feather that has no stringer. And, like Surfammo said, some epoxy boards (and some PE resin boards) have resin or epoxy stringers that are virtually invisible. Also, you can't see the stringer through the finish coat on all boards with opaque finish coats. While they add strength, they aren't essential, and they won't prevent a board from breaking if it is subjected to the right forces.

  3. The strip of wood is called a stringer. If you have an epoxy board, the stringer may be made of epoxy material and will not be readily visible. Usually only fiberglass boards have a visible wood stringer.
