  1. to get 102, you multiply 17 by 6

    so you do the same to A

    3 x 6 = 18

    3:17 = 18:102

  2. make a proportion

    3 _= _a     (_fraction symbol)

    17 102

    17a=306

    /17   /17

    a=18

    hope this helps!

  3. You are on the right track.  Here's how to set up the ratio:

    3/17 = a/102.

    Now cross multiply to find "a."

    17a = 306

    a = 306/17

    a = 18

  4. 102 / 17 = 6

    3 x 6 = 18

    a = 18
