Question:

Help!!!! printer failed after I fiddled with the ink ?

I have a canyon 600 printer, it seemed low on the ink so I took the cartridges out to see if they need to be replaced. After discovering that they still had some ink I replaced the ink cartridges. I then tried to print again but was unable; it said "the following ink cannot be recognized. Also on the main screen of the computer said:

“Error #:1660 Black [5] Printer cannot be executed because the ink tank may not be installed proper or may not be compatible with the printer Install the appropriate ink tank.”

I'm not computer savvy so I dialed my father he concluded that by removing the ink I some how managed to mess up a sensitive microchip that’s somewhere in the printer. I tried researching this on the computer got nowhere. If you think you have a clue about what I should do fix what I have done help me. I'll take any solution at this point.

  1. I think simply unplugging the printer from the power source will reset your printer.  While you may have touched a chip when you removed the cartridges, I find it hard to believe you could have damaged them.  If the ink is almost gone anyway, I'd suggest just buying new cartridges is the "reset" info I provided does note work.

  2. If all you did was take the ink cartridges out, then it's not likely you damaged the printer itself.

I would suggest removing the cartridges again and putting them back in again taking careful note to insure that they fit snugly back into place. Also make sure that you haven't accidentally switched them around (e.g. don't have the black cartridge in the slot for the color, etc).
