Strange ?, I know. Anyway, I know hens lay eggs, roosters are the male, and we eat chicken. So....do we only eat chickens (female) or are roosters also part of the chicken that we buy from the grocery store. I thought I was stupid until I began to ask ALL of my friends and family this ?, and nobody knew the answer for sure. This came up when my 7 yo son asked why there was a pic. of a rooster on the chicken noodle soup packet. He ask why because "we don't eat roosters, we eat chicken". What's the deal?

  1. The hatcheries gas, discard or macerate the male chicks (roosters). They do not end up on your plate unless you specifically purchase a capon (castrated rooster) or rooster. But you certainly won't get one from a factory farm (which is the norm in America)
