  1. Give him more garlic in his diet. As for cuts, keep them clean. Pigs don't like being dirty all of the time, they're perfectly happy having a stall with shavings, just like horses. This will help prevent infections through cuts until they heal.

  2. Well they say cider vinger is good fly spray but I would not put it in a cut.  Also feeding garlic can help deter flies but that takes some time to go through the system.

  3. home made fly spray recipe:

get a 2 litre bottle (empty obviously), then put in:

2 small bottles of citronella oil (can be bought from local chemist over the counter)

a mug of strong cold tea,

    3 tbsps methylated spirits (meths)

    3 tbsps malt vinegar

    squirt of washing up liquid

then fill up with cold water

Voila! cheap home made fly spray that actually works!!

  4. Wonder Dust

edit- people who say fly spray yes this helps but it takes months for it to actully work because it has to go through the horses system continuly for a few months before it begins to take an effect.  if you want to get ride of flys you should buy this product which is a larvae of a bug that eats fly eggs.  You buy a bunch in early May when fly season starts and you receive shimpmnets over a period of time.  You just thorugh it in your manure pile.  We have seen a drastic reduction of flys at our barn.

  5. You should consult with a large animal vet on this...pigs have very little hair, so what you'd put on a horse may be irritating to the pig's skin.  Any antibacterial/antifungal ointment can be put on the cuts...clean them with hydrogen peroxide first...it will not irritate the sensitive tissue.  The best repellent is something you can feed...and put fly traps around to attract them away from the area where the pig is kept.  But you should clear all of it with a vet.

  6. scrub with betadine then swat on the cut, it will keep the flys away and help the cut heal
