Help !! saw kids running amilessly acros a street stopped them told them to take care if they are gonna cross?

streets where people are soo consumed w/ texting and things where they might not see them low end be hold a car war in the path of one of the kids SCARED THE BEJEEBUS out of me I'm black and 46 and grew up in a different era i know than these little kids in my day it would of been handled very differently than today .Was I in the wrong, or was it plausible to tell the little kids to watch out ?Now I'm thinking( in this day of oprahisims of raising kids ) i might have stepped over the line HELP !!

Instead of the parent or teacher, who the kids have long since tuned out, you are the guest speaker in this situation, where you've got a two minute window of opportunity to give some wisdom, before you too are tuned out.

Even if you raised your voice a little, your explanation of the danger they were in will stick with them.

At least for a few days...

I think you were spot on.

I appreciate someone pointing out to my children when they aren't using their brains properly.  Sadly you are correct to think that the parents might be offended.

Which is a pity, a live embarrassed child is much better than a dead one with his "self-esteem" in tact.

Just so you know...I'm 49 and white.  I don't care what colour your skin is, if my child is being stupid and I'm not around please let him know (and that you have no problem telling his parents that you caught him in the act).

if they was my kids i would pat you on the back and say thankyou, sometimes kids take more notice when a stranger ticks them off than their parents, i dont think what you did would be seen as a telling off though more a friendly reminder well done if the parents have a go at you bcos of it then you know where the kids lack of self comes from
