Im staying in a hotel and they have a modem where your can connect your laptop to with an ethernet cable. I tried to do this but it wouldn't come up under network connections. I called the tech support and they said something about installing a driver. I have no idea what he means. I need to connect to the internet, right now im down in the lobby because there is wifi down here but not in the room.

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron B130 Running Windows XP in English.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ASAP?

  1. hey in every hotel a defrent network is aviable for its secuirty porpose................

if you are going to connect you laptop via cable than you should the Ip address and DNS address of your hotel so that you can  connect hotel.

for more cereealy write here what error you are gettting when you connect cable in your laptop

  2. check and see whether your network connection is enabled or not.

you may be having static IP make it dynamic.....enable dhcp service.... ok follow the instructions

go to network connections> Local area Network>properties>TCP IP>properties> change to automatically.......> close the windows by clicking OK

still not working ask me again with more details

  3. Check the simple things first.

If your RJ-45 (hardwire Ethernet) works any where else on your laptop, there is no need to install a driver for it. Your card is working.

If you plug it in, you should see some lights flash on at the jack. Chances are the cable in your room is dead. I have run in to this many times in hotels.

All of the hotels I stay at that had Internet used DHCP in the rooms.

If you are sure you need the driver software .

Now go to where you said you have Internet access in the lobby. Then click on the link below.

    http://support.us.dell.com/support/downl...

This will take you right to the network drivers page for your model B130. Download the file and then execute it. Dell you do everything else for you.

  4. If  your wired network card can not connect it probably is not correctly installed, this means you will need to obtain the driver software for it and install that.

  5. This may prove difficult as you need the driver in order to download from the internet. You could borrow someone's computer, most hotels have one in the lobby for guests. Check with the front desk and download the driver to a CD, then load driver from CD to your laptop.

Download driver and install instructions here.
