I was sitting with a nice cup of coffee tilting the chair on the back legs of the chair ,as we do in Texas,, I detected this English guy was watching me,than I leaned in on the table.he walked over and said ''are you a yank we don't put our elbows on the table here''. I told him to hit the door or the floor he chose the floor split his face open like a ripe watermelon. Now I'm starting to wonder was i wrong I mean were I come from we don't care about elbows on the table? I do thank you for your help

  1. I think you was wrong as you did not give him the option of returning to his seat and minding his own bl@@dy business.

So basically what you did was to ruin your enjoyment of your coffee, which was a silly thing to do.

  2. no elbows on the table.its rude.and stop the bullsh*t. sorry bullsh*t is the amercian way.

  3. As an Englishman I can say you did the right thing. After all you gave him a choice and he chose the floor.

It was none of his business that you were tilting the chair (unless he was right behind you) and neither was your elbows on the table (which we do all the time). He was just spoiling for a fight.

Good luck. I wish more of you Texans here!

  4. He shouldn´t have said anything to you.Why should it bother him so much? The thing is...did he say it in a nice way or very unrespectful?Anyway.... violence is never a good solution.......

I think you could just avoid it

  5. well if he went up to you in a very bad attitude then i would say yes but if he just went up to you and told you in a calm way as in giving an advice then thats pretty messed up..so it all depends how the guy reacted

  6. slight over reaction?

  7. I think beating someone up over a difference in customs is just stupid.

  8. "Keep your elbows off the table, this is not a horses' stable"... it's a well known phrase... and trust me, Texas is no exception.

I'm surprised he came over and told you though, that was disrespectful too and him calling you a yank before you even answered was a stupid thing to do IMO... but it wasn't worth a fight.

Glad to hear you won though!

  9. I think it was very wrong to physically attack someone like that.  You aren't setting a very good example about Americans.

  10. I suspect this whole question is bullshit. If you were sitting with your chair tilted on the back legs, how on earth could you have had your elbows on the table?

We, in general, do not remonstrate with strangers over something as trivial as putting one's elbows on a table.

  11. Hit a man in the face over a statement on manners.  And how typically American, no concern for local customs when in a different country.  And how typical Texan, it's my way or I'll hurt you.  Yeah your a real peach.

I'd bet you sucker punched a smaller guy not expecting a fight over something so simple.  Texans - the poster child for "Ugly Americans."

  12. The fact that you are too afraid to allow E mail or IM and you are too afraid to allow your questions and answers to be visible rather suggests to me that your statement about hitting an Englishman is probably a lie because you are likely to be too afraid to hit anyone.

Why is it that all the morons and misfits, liars and trolls, immature idiots and pathetic serial reporters Seldom allow E mail, IM or their Q&As to be visable?  I would suggest it is because of cowardice.

  13. Ho Ho.... I can't believe how many people are taking this seriously.... tell me... go on, I could do with another laugh.... after you 'cowboyed up' did you jump on Champion the wonder horse and ride out the h**l out of there before the sheriff and his posse arrived, or just mosey on down the street with your best gal by your side ?

Mind you ... you got a few takers, so hats (10 gallon I presume) off to you.

  14. It is perfectly understandable!Americans are going through withdrawal symptoms due to their declining role in the world and tend to fantasise a great deal!

Sometimes the root cause can be simply watching  too many John Wayne or Henry Fonda films! Which give some Americans a sense of delusions of grandeur and imaginary power!

World onlookers must not be angry with these Americans like the questioner!Just feel sorry for them! Along with their fantasies!Perhaps! They will see the world as it really is!And their role in it!

  15. It is considered rude to sit with your elbows on the table and this is what we teach our children.  Even if he did call you a 'yank' I don't think it was necessary for you to hit him, that is what we call grevious bodily harm (gbh) and he could have reported you to the police.
