my mom took my dog for a walk in the woods and i just checked her out and she's COVERED in ticks all over her front paws (who knows where else). these are very small ticks and they are hard to get to in her fur. we just spent forever and got about 20 off.

what gets them off? i thought capstar was for ticks, but it says just for fleas. i just put her dose of k9 advantics on her, but i dont need these things in my house. i just pulled one off me! what else is a quick remedy?

  1. Pulling them off with tweezers is the best thing, but you could try a quick bath with flea and tick shampoo. Pyrethrin base is good and safe. Leave it on about 10 min before rinsing. Advantix or frontline will work pretty well, probably not 100%, and might take up to 24 hrs if it isn't already on the dog at the time she got the ticks. Use a flea comb, or fine tooth comb, and comb her well, you might get some off that have not embedded yet. Ticks especially love legs, head, neck, and don't forget in the ears. Good luck. You have a long night ahead!

also, once you remove them, put them in a cup of some kind of oil. Mineral, olive, whatever. They breathe through their skin so it suffocates them. If you do this while they are on the dog though they are likely to inject toxins or Lyme bacterin into the dog...better to pull them out.

  2. Frontline. ... Every 30 days.  It works fast.

Don't pull them off you can leave little parts in the skin that cause infection that way.  Wait for the Frontline to work.  It is a liquid that you put on the dog's fur between it's shoulder blades where he can't l**k it or touch it until it dries.  then reapply it every 30 days.  It is sold in packages 3 vials to the box, based on the weight of the dog.  Keep using it in all warm months in the future.  Apparently you live in the tick capital of the world.  sorry.

You can get it from a pet store or a vet.

**Very important:  Do NOT give a flea and tick bath and Frontline. ** Use one or the other** and Frontline is better.  If you use both in one month you will poison your dog with an overdose of insecticide seeping in through his skin!

  3. if your dog ticks then she should tock too

  4. you have to pull them off with tweezers, especially since they are small. maybe do a flea and tick bath

  5. You could try giving her a bath with dawn dishwashing liquid. I read somewhere that it helps get rid of fleas and ticks quickly.  don't know if it works or not.

  6. ok, get rubbing alchohol, or beer, and poor it all over the ticks! then get tweasers and pluck them off, be sure that they are on a rag with rubbing alchohol after you pluck them, trust me, my dog had four ticks on her and it worked!, dont be afraid to PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLL! <:3

    hope that helps!

ps, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaase give me ten points.

    bye!

  7. Right now..

Either take your dog to a 24 hour emergency clinic  (optional).  OR

Put the dog in a contained area, drink some hot cocoa and get some sleep!  Buy Frontline in the morning if you don't go to the vet.  It kills ticks within 24 - 48 hours.

    Calm down.

Either you can take your dog to the vet or show up at your local pet store and buy a vial of Frontline as soon as they open.

Keep the dog away from your soft furniture.

One more time... Calm down, it doesn't help to panic.

    EDIT:

If you have already used some insecticide on your dog.  You MUST take the dog to the vet.  Now it is a scientific matter to decide by a DOCTOR how much and what chemicals can safely be used to avoid giving your dog an overdose of poison!.  Call now and leave a message that you will be there at 8:30 tomorrow morning.  Just SHOW UP.

They will take the matter from there.

    NOW  Get some sleep!
