Help to get to Chile?

My husband, daughter, and I haven't seen my family in 5 years and need some ideas on cheap fares to Chile. How can I find an airline worker to help me get a reduced rate? Has anyone done this before?

  1. Where are you flying from?

I think definetly the best idea is to go to known cheap travel agents. Online fares are actually usually much more expensive!

I am travelling to Chile at the end of the year and when i searched online i only found fares (leaving from Australia) from $3500 - $5000 and sometimes more, when I walked into the travel agent they were able to arrange something much better for me. I am now paying around $2500 instead of $3500 which is the price i found on their own website!

If you want cheap flights its probably best to get the agent thinking about what are the cheapest routes to chile, this might involve extra stops but can save you heaps of $$$$

  2. Check LAN.com everyday, they sometimes have awesome offers.

Last month I took advantage of their "half-price kilometers" offer; I bought enough kilometers to travel from Ecuador to Chile twice for just $530.

  3. I was recently looking at these two sites:

    http://www.cheapoair.com/

    http://www.kayak.com/

They both seem to have good deals.

However, it really depends on WHEN you are travelling...

I'm pretty sure online you can get better fares than in a travel agency.

  4. I think I got a fare about $1000@ on kayak a couple of weeks ago.  That's the price to go by plane not by kayak -- which is a search engine.

  5. The price of your ticket will depend on several factors - what season (high or low) you are traveling, how far in advance you buy and how flexible you can be with your schedule (flying weekdays instead of weekends is usually less expensive).

I strongly advise contacting the airlines directly by phone and asking them for the lowest available fare. An agent has access to fares you sometimes can't see or get online and also knows a few tricks (like where to connect for cheaper fares, special fares, etc.)

You may also be able to get a deal from a travel agent. They often buy in bulk and have very low fares available but be aware that they will also have very strict restrictions on the use of the ticket, such as absolutely no changes and no refunds for any reason.

One other thought is to see if you have a friend that might let you use their frequent flyer miles to fly.

Chile in general is just a very expensive place to fly to and from. You might even consider checking on the price of a ticket to Argentina (generally less expensive) and then booking an internal flight or even a bus from there to Chile. It could be a lot cheaper.

    Just a few ideas....

  6. You can google it. Go to cheapairlinetickets.com?

  7. You can check with some local agencies.

You can call to Lan Airlines

    http://www.lan.com/index-en-us.html

    Or contact a travel agency like Cocha (+56 - 2 - 4641000)

    or Comapa (+56 - 61 - 200200)

They can give you more information about special fares and all of the information you need. Comapa and Cocha are agencies located in Chile, but they speak english
