Help to improve my credit score for law enforcement employment ?

I am a public safety officer at acommunity college. I was working there since february but wa working as part time-1.I wasnt able to pay my credit cards since because I wasnt making much. I got promoted last week and now Im making more. When I get my next paychexk next month, I will be making twice and a half than previously. Now I can afford to pay. But my credit score is 3194. I have two on going apllication with two local police agencies.What can I do to start improving my score. Im My limits were altogether 6000 but now its almost 10 000 with late fees. Should I do a debt settlemnt or what please help ?

  1. Well, many agencies still don't check credit. So you might get lucky there.

    However, the first step is paying your debts. Call them and ask to settle. Tell them you are willing to pay the original amount, but not the fees. If they are about to charge off the account, they may be willing to settle with you...Heck, they may accept payments for an amount below $6000.

    In the mean time, you will also need some accounts in good standing. Try something like a department store, gas or secured credit card. If you have a good account, that will also help your credit.

    Something else, it is a bit questionable (but if they don't ask you about specific credit and just check a score, it shouldn't be a problem). You can challenge everything on your credit report. It is not the wondrous solution that some pseudos-experts make it out to be, however, it can temporarily improve your score.

    You may also find things on there that don't belong. For example, when I was 16 I took a college class in high school. My mom failed to pay the university for the class. A few years later I found it on my credit report. I had it removed and my score improved slightly.
