I bought a Russian tortoise 3 days ago. I picked a healthy one that was eating at the time. He has clear eyes, healthy stool, and he just wont eat. Ive tried commercial food, romaine lettuce, kale, tomatos, dandelion, carrots, etc. He just wont eat. It is a boy and has a long tail. He has a large 60 sq foot out doors enclousor and has started digging a burrrow. The temp range now is abou1 65- 85 degrees. Recently its been about 73 degrees. The humidity is fine. What do I do????

  1. i have a red eard three toed box turtle and a russian tortise if he is out =side there could be parasites and other yuccies that are not healthy take him/her  inside put a towel in your bathtub and have a piece of lettuce and some other varietys of food leave it in there for at least 1-8 hours. if that is still not working try to feed him/her by hand hold the food infront of the mouth.

  2. As in one of the other replies a fecal should be done

    by a vet.

  3. I would not worry, it just sounds like relocation stress. It is quite normal for reptiles to refuse food for several days when their environment has been changed. I keep redfoot tortoises and they routinely go off their food for several days when I move them from their inside winter housing to their outdoor summer housing. They also do not eat well on the cooler days.
