Okay i just want a very average sounding base drum, i know HOW to tune it but i dont know whether it will sound better high or low. Or if the back or front head should be the higher or the lower. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add any other ideas or advice about the drumset its a pearl drum head and pearl EXP drum set compression shells.

  1. Go get a drum dial tuner.

  2. Honestly....

It's really up to you if you want a higher or lower tone in your "drum sound".  You're going to have to tune it high and tune it low to see whcih sound you prefer better. ME personally, I like my Bass Drums to have that "fat,  thump boomy" sound.  You get that sound by removing the Pillows fron inside the Bass drum. Pillows can really kill the natural tone of a Bass Drum head by compressing or "muffling" the sound in too much and not allowing the Bass Drum to breathe when you kick it. I only used to use 4" thick Paper Towels sheet on my Bass Drums head....one on each head near the Remo logo.  That's how I got my "fat, thick boomy" sound out of it.  Drums are meant to "breathe" when you play them....not sound like pices of thick wood. You have to allow enough ventialltion and room for them to really bring out the sound in them.  Experiment with different type of tones

(both high and lower pitches)  on your Bass Drums...and also on your Snare, Your Floor Tom  your Tom-toms too.  This IS THE only way you are going find your  own personal "unique drum sound". Hope this helps and good luck.
