We have three wires coming out of the ceiling...red, white and black. We have the remote unit with two wires black and whire a/c coming out of one side and the other side of the remote we have black, white and blue coming out of the remote. We have a dimmer switch on the wall. We have tried getting the fan to work for hours and can not get it. The instructions do not mention the red wire that is coming out fo the ceiling.

  1. red and white are hot wires. black is ground. you should have a switch on the ceiling fan for night and one for fan. make sure they are both on and try connecting both red wire and white wire together to power and black to ground by itself. the main power will be controlled by the dimmer switch and controlling whether the light is on and not the fan or vise versa will be controlled on the ceiling fan itself

  2. Here is how it is commonly wired.

    Black is constant power

Red is controlled by a switch

    White is neutral

Do you have a voltage tester to make sure that the black is a constant hot? If not take the plate off the wall switch and look to see what color of wires are on it. If you see a black and a red most likely the black in the ceiling box is  a constant hot(not controlled by the switch)

The side of the remote with just the black and white .....hook up to the black and white wires in your ceiling box. Cap the red wire.

Chris R  no disrespect intended but...are you an electrician?

The BLACK WIRE IS NEVER GROUND that is bare copper in most houses or green

The remote wires with black white and blue....

.Black to black on the ceiling fan

    White to white

blue to the light (if you have a light on the fan) wire.

That should do it for you, if you have any other questions on it email me.

  3. First, you've got to figure out what you've got in

that ceiling box. Look inside. Tell us.

What did you have there before?

What were those wires tied to originally?

    Were any tied together?

Guessing without knowing the above can get you 'shorts` at best, hurt if unlucky.

I suspect that that remote requires special wiring to the ceiling unit different from what's installed.

  4. Ok, I am NO electrician, but was just looking at this question.

Have you tried connecting the blue wire and the red wires together?

    Also, are your connections solid?

Be careful not to short-circuit your connections and start a fire.

Sorry, but I hoped this helped... even a little.

  5. Forget all above answers and use this:

The red in ceiling box was originally used for a fan light from probably your dimmer. Do not use this wire. The black was used for the fan from another switch.

Connect the remote controller wires  as follows.

Black from ceiling box to black (ac) power wire on remote.

White from ceiling box to white (ac) power wire on remote.

The black, white and blue from controller go to the black, white and blue to fan.  Your remote should have a dimming effect for lights built in.

If you had no switch on wall for black wire in ceiling box, then it was hot all the time and still use it.

Remember do not use red wire with dimmer switch at all.

                        Good luck

  6. First, a ceiling fan should not be connected to a dimmer switch.  Is there another switch next to the dimmer switch? Was the red wire hooked up or did it just have a wire nut on it? The black and white should supply power and the red and white should/might be controlled by a separate switch.
