Help..virus question, cant download anything..?

how do i get rid of a virus ? i cant download anything do a system restore or have a recovery disk CD. so DONT TELL ME TO DOWNLOAD ANYTHING PLEASE?? =( i had an MS antivirus and i just got rid of it but now it wont let me do anything please help!

Hi can you try a system restore as it'd help get rid of the virii, but after that, it's recommended to scan the machine ASAP :)

The first step to clearing a virus is of course to try running a virus scan on your PC. If you do not have an anti virus installed OR your anti virus is not picking up anything chances are high that the anti virus alone is not strong enough to combat the problem.

When you are at this stage, there is NO other choice but to go online and download software to help you. Since you say you do not want anyone to tell you to download anything, I guess there will be no more help BUT to format your PC.

However, you said that you do not have a recovery CD? Then the last step is also strike out. You have to get a new PC I guess. Alternatively, buy a legit copy of Windows OS and format your PC.

Just in case you want to download software to help you (you can download it from school or at a friend's house and copy over to your flash disk/thumb drive):

1. Anti virus (http://www.avast.com)

Try downloading stuff when booted in safe mode with networking. If that doesn't work then save antispyware and antivirus programs to a USB of some sort and move it to the other computer while on safe mode. (You download with a clean computer) If you want to reinstall your OS then you could download linux on a USB drive and move it. I did find something that can reinstall windows xp without the disk.
