ok this is my third volleyball question and like I've said in previous questions I am in 8th grade ( 13 years old ) and Im about 5' 9". today was my first day of school and i talked to the coach...she said that tryouts are next week. she also said she is looking for active students, and ones that can be teached, and molded into a great player......I was wondering how else can I stand out at the tryout? and what are the main things I should practice...lastly, what are some excerises I can do that will help me with serving, hitting(spiking) ,and bumping......thankyou so much and any form of encouragment is greatly welcomed and appreciated!!!

  1. Hola!  I'm in eight grade also, and i made A team last year.  You are so lucky, im only five foot!!  Well, im a setter, so i work on hand excersises, wear a bright colored shirt with your name on it.  They will remember you better.  Work on your serving mostly, because at our age, coaches look for a killer serve to get easy points.  Also work on hitting, because it is SO much fun.  On your serve, mostly work on ur toss, because without a good toss their is no good serve.  Any questions, just ask more!  Don't worry, i've played for over 4 years!

  2. your a noob, your in 8th you damm tall of course your gonna make the damm team unless your a fatty

  3. The first thing you have to do is relax! Volleyball comes naturally and being you're tall, you have a GREAT advantage. The coach will probably being looking for you to play close to the net because of your height, so hitting is important. I played middle for 7 years, and I still play.  Make sure you keep your hitting arm straight and hit with you're palm open (you have better control with an open palm). When you swing at the ball follow through completely.  Don't stop swinging until you're arm is pointing towards the floor ! (keeping you're arm straight the whole time).

As for serving, i'm not an overhand server. (not strong enough) so, if you're doing underhand, the same rules apply.  Keep you're arm straight and follow through completely!

Bumping is easy, just make sure you make a good platform with you're arms, the flatter the better, and keep you're arms straight !

Wherever your body and hips are facing, thats where the ball will go.  Very important.

Hope I helped, and if you needed any advice, let me know. GOOD LUCK!
