My 8 month old Lhasa Apso has had fleas for a while, I purchased Frontline Plus for him and it actually made it worse. Not only are they not gone but it's so bad now that he is biting himself til he bleeds I'm goin to take him to the vet tomorrow but I washed him and stuff a few hrs ago. He was really slugish today and now he's burning up. I know his body temp is a lot higher than ours but he's never even been close to being this warm. Is ther anything I can do for him til I can get him to the vet. I would bring him to a pet emergency place but my roommate works over nites and uses my car.

  1. take a cab

  2. You can give him baby aspirin. DO NOT give tylenol as it can damage his kidneys

  3. unless you take his temp with a rectal thermometer don't assume he has a fever. When animals have skin infections which he sounds like he has from the self mutilating the skin can seem hot to the touch even though their temperature is normal. Do not give him aspirin or any other medication.  although plain aspirin at the appropriate dose does not harm a dog your vet will probably want to give him steroids to calm the skin quickly and he can not do that if you give the aspirin because they will interact. You could give him a bath to sooth his skin and some plain benadryl for the itching. Benadryl is 1mg per pound .
