  1. ok contrary to what the user down there said i doubt its from stress...there's most likely a female or even more likely a male who's somewhere around and making them try to mark off their territory...until this cat goes away there's is really not much you can do...and whatever you do...DO NOT set your cats on the intruder although this may cause the intruder to flee its not worth your cats getting bitten and developing infections and things from strays who have god knows what types of diseases...search around your house for strays and if you see any you might be able to capture it and take it to a no kill or simply call animal control to set up a trap and take it to the pound...at least your cats will stop spraying once the intruder is gone...but there's really nothing you can do other than that

  2. Not a great deal I am afraid.

They have started spraying for 1 of 2 reasons:

1/ There is either a female cat in the household or 1 nearby and they are scent marking to attract her.

2/ 1 of your male cats is dominant and he is intimidating the other which sprays to try and assert itself which, in turn, causes the dominant male to over-spray.

Neutering, as you now know, is not the answer. It would have been a great deal worse had they not been to the vets though.

I am afraid that no matter how much you neutralise the odour, keep the cats out etc. they will continue to do this.

I doubt anyone will give you an answer that works.

    Sorry.

  3. When neutered cats suddenly begin spraying, it's ususally in response to illness or stress.  If they haven't been checked by a vet recently it's a good idea to take them for a check up.  If the vet gives them the all clear, then you need to think about behavioural causes.  How do the cats get on with each other, or are there cats in the neighbourhood they may feel intimidated by?  Have there been changes of any kind within the home recently?  Even minor changes such as new furniture or decorating can upset some cats.

The web site below has a great article on spraying which has lots of information and advice you may find helpful.

Feliway can help as it emits an aroma that cats find soothing, and if they feel more relaxed it can reduce or eliminate their need to spray.

Be patient with them, they're either ill or stressed.
