1. Landfills get filled up faster with used PCs. They are not bio-degradeable, so they take up space in the landfills.

2. Before the mandate to remove lead from electronic products (called "ROHS" from the European Union), in older computers, there is a small amount of lead in the solder of the circuit boards and components (in computers). This lead may get into the environment through landfills. Lead is a toxic metal.

There are an increasing number of recyling centers that take computers (PCs).  Much of the material can be recycled.  More computer recycling centers should be built.
