  1. I think that the process is sometimes referred to as deforestation. When loggers cut down trees for paper for a large company, that is one way the forest is destroyed. Another common way, is the slash and burn method. For example, people in rain forest or similar areas, may find it easier to grow crops than to subsist some other way, so they chop down an area of forest, burn the vegetation, and plant crops to grow, eat, sell, and trade. The problem is, the burnt vegetation only fertilizes a patch of land for so long, and soon, the farmer does the same method to get by for another small length of time. Either way, the people of the region that this happens in suffer, the animal and plant life suffer, etc. Deforestation happens largely by human means, but another way a forest is destroyed, is by a lightening. When lightening "strikes" a forest fire ensues and consumes large acreage of trees. It take years for the forest to recover and rejuvenate itself. In California, there is a pest called the bark beetle that harms already weak trees and further weakens and deadens them over time. Then, with any little campfire gone awry, or a lightening strike, the forest becomes engulfed in flames. Lots of information, I know, but I hope this helped you.

  2. I think it's reforestation. I also could be wrong.
