Help what kind of spiderweb?

I live in Florida at my work everymoring around 3am there are hundreds of these spiderwebs,they are just single strands that hang down from the trees.What kind of spiders are doing this?

  1. These are likely inchworms.  They feed on leaves and when they are done drop down on a single thread.  Shake the tree or hit it with a hose and more should come down for you to look at.


  2. If it's just a single strand, it may not be spiders at all.

    There are a number of caterpillars that drop down on bungee-like cords of silk to reach new foliage or get down to the ground to pupate.

    If I had to guess, I'd say they are more likely to be the culprits than spiders.
