Question:

Help... what should the wall color be?

I am moving into my new apartment and I am either buying a red couch or a khaki/neutral color couch. Now the carpet is a beige color and the walls are white now, and I want that to change. Question is, what would be a great color for the walls or even just the wall behind each of the different colored couches? It may help me in actually deciding on the couch to get! Thanks for any help you can give.

  1. Go for a neutral colored couch and paint the wall with your accent color. Chocolate brown and slate blue are very "in" colors right now. Maybe a brown couch and blue wall. Remember, when you move, your couch will have better odds of matching new decor if it is a neutral color. Painting is easier than reupholstering!

  2. First, remember reds are very hard to match. There are so many different tones.

Since, your carpet is beige, I think a beautiful red couch would be fantastic. Since reds are hard to match, I would buy my couch first. Trust me, it will be easier to find a match for the couch, than couch for the paint color.

After you've found the couch and paint match, decide where you want to paint. Since, red will be your dominate color, consider painting one wall red and the other three in a beige. Carefully, choose the wall for the red. This wall will be a focal point. Decide how dark or lite you want for the beige. For myself, I would go with a darker beige, then my carpet, towards the brown side. This will be beautiful with red.

Don't forget you need to bring in a third color, to finish your color scheme, for an accent color. Red is your dominate color. Depending on how bold or not you want to be, you have lots of choices. You could try turquoise, gold or a very rich green (almost lime).

Go to a paint store and get you a load of color samples together. Pick several, including colors you think you would never choose and bring home. Your lighting will make a difference. Then sit and imagine the colors through out your room.

So, you have decided what colors you want! Now, it is to the window coverings! Get you several catalogs that sell curtains, like Domestications, JC Penneys or Dillards (whatever). Find the style you want, first, then choose the colors. If the windows are on the brown walls, you can consider putting in red to match and bring out the red. Don't use your accent color, this is just to bring in a punch of color!

Sorry, I didn't mean to go through your whole room. I just love to decorate.

    Wish you best of luck!

  3. beige is nicer color with matching with carpet and maybe with your furnishing http://mattress-review.blogspot.com/

  4. get a brownish khaki couch and paint it turqoise-y tealish or a fun, bright blue then put a matching pillow on the brown couch (i'm kinda obsessed w/ brown & blue color schemes)

  5. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think "warm stone" (# 7032) would be a great color choice. And go with the red couch.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & for $5 they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
