First off it's Canada, not canda.

Before your friend leaves their province of reisdence make sure they purchase a travel insurance policy. The policy should, at the very least, cover Emergency Medical Expenses (all of them do). You can add other coverages (Trip Cancellation, Lost Baggage, Trip Interruption, etc.) however these are nice-to-have coverages and will have an additional cost. They can go into any travel agency or insurance agency and purchase this coverage. Also many credit cards have this coverage available already included for the cardholder or available for purchase.
