But the way the test is type up confuses me. I m reading this test right

SGOT (AST) 17/UL 5-35

SGPT (ALT) 28/UL 7-56

  1. UL stands for "Upper Limit of Normal" and is sometimes also expressed at U/L or ULN.   It shows you the span of values that would be expected in a "normal" person.

So your AST is 17, with an upper limit between 5 and 35 (so you're normal) and your ALT is 28, with an upper limit of 7-56 (so you're normal).

Now, I'm not a medical person.  What I did was a couple of web searches on how to interpret hep results, and what UL stood for.

I've put a link to a document about ALT and ALS testing.  At the top of the second page, you'll see a section called "Expected Values."    This talks about Upper Limits and expected ranges and so forth.  This is how I sort of figured out what was going on.

Perhaps someone with a laboratory / hematology background could confirm my answer?
