Help! wiht counselor?

I am in special Ed, grade 10th and I want to take computer science class. What is requirement? Do I go speak with the school counselor? What if she or he says no? What do I do?

  1. I would ask your special education teacher first, they can ask the other teacher about any requirements or expectations of the students.  The councilor would do the same thing.  Most teachers would expect you to use and have basic computer skills beforehand.


  2. Have your parents call an IEP meeting to discuss the issue with the IEP team.  If it's a class open to any student in your grade, there's no reason you can't take it either.  You should be allowed equal access to courses offered in your school.  If you need support or modified work to complete the class, that should be offered.  Who knows, it may be an area where you SHINE!!

  3. If you want to take a computer class either schedule it or talk to the counselor. The counselor cannot say no to you. Just because you are special ed. doesn't mean you are denied the right to learn about computers.
