Not so simple I guess. Power is coming into switch which operates the receptacle on the wall. 3 wires coming into the switch W/B/Bare The white and black run to the receptacle. I have a junction box newly installed and the ceiling fan box I ran a 3 wire romex to the junction box and have my power running to the junction box as well.

How do I isolate the receptacle and let the switch operate my fan?

  1. connect the black from the fusebox with the black going to the outlet. Add a small black wire to that connection called a pigtail. Connect that wire to one side of the switch. Connect black wire to the other side of the switch that goes to the fan.  Connect all three whites together. connect all three bare wires together

  2.     start from where the pwr source is.....

Now bring a wire (b/w/bare) from the Fan  to the switch

Connect the two wht's to each other

place the coppers  to the small gnd  s***w inside the box

That leaves the blks. Which goes to the Switch one  on either  terminal.  (Done)

If you want the plug to  work from this  junction,  connect the  white  fr. the plug to the  white in the bx, then id the  phase (pwr blk on the switch and conect the  two together..

  3. Run White and Black wires from the socket (or from the switch where they go to the socket) to the fan and the switch will control the fan.

If you want the socket on all the time, run a second Black wire from the hot side of the switch to the socket.

Run the Green wire to the Ground connection on the fan.

    Good luck.

  4. find the hot for the recept and take the switch out of the equation.
