I have just gotten a 2001 Honda xr100r. It ran great. Perfectly. not even a scratch on it. Then after I went riding i greased the chain, washed it, etc. the next day after i washed it, it would not even start! The day after that, I can start it, but I have this problem:

Now whenever i twist the throttle far, it acts as if I'm holding the kill switch and the engine will die out if i don't let go of the throttle. The only thing i can think of that is wrong with it is that I might have gotten some water in the exhaust pipe when i washed it. Any answers?

  1. Mybe water in the gas. You might have gotten the coil wet when you washed it as well.

  2. 1st answer is correct, just wanted to add.  There is a larger nut on the bottom of your carb or a small s***w that you need to back out just a turn that will let you drain it.  Do it and see if there is water in the gas (by catching some of it).  If it doesn't seem to have water in there (which I am pretty sure it will by the sound of things) then it is electrical. If there is water turn the gas off at the tank and drain all the carb.  Close everything up and turn the gas back on.  Repeat and check for water again.  This may have gotten rid of all the water, if not you have to drain the tank (from reserve, but sure to get it all, it will try and hide).

If it is electrical it should be dry enough now to let it start and run OK.  A way to find the problem with the electronics is to get it running and start spraying a fine stream of water on small sections of anything that looks electrical.  When it starts running rough that's where the problem is.  Check all connections around that spot and repair as needed.
