My 7 year old daughter is 54 inches tall or 4'6 and weights 80 pounds. She wears a 3 1/2 to 4 shoe. She keeps falling all the time and doesn't realize how big she. Is she really that big for her age? The doctor said her brain will catch up to her size. Any advice. Thanks

  1. She's very tall and her shoe size is big. I'm sure she'll catch up.

I'm way older than her and i weigh 70 pounds. Her shoe size is four times bigger than mine.

But i'm sure she''l catch up!

    :D

  2. I don't think that she is that big.  My average sized 7.5 year old is 52 inches or 4'4", he is super light at 52 lbs.  He also wears a size 3 shoe.  He is the same height as most first graders maybe on the taller side but definately not the biggest.

My short son is turning 3 in 1 month.  He is 38 inches and 33 lbs.  His preschool classmate who is 3.5 years is 46 inches and 48 lbs.  He is predicted to be 6'8".  This is below the 50th percentile on the cdc growth charts for my son.

When kids go through a growth spurt they can be clumsy.

Some 11 questions up in this same section Nicole asked a question about size of 7-8 year olds.  I don't know how to link it but considering that school aged kids grow 3-5 inches a year here lists the size of several 8 year olds.

    4'10" 89 lbs

    4'8"   60 lbs

    4'7"   72 lbs

    4'5"   95 lbs

    4'2"    59 lbs

  3. my daughter will be 7 in a few weeks and is exactly the same size as yours... she has always been bigger than the kids in her class, even though she is one of the youngest

she takes hip hop dance classes and ice skating that helps with her clumsiness- we don't notice it much, new shoes do bother her, though

  4. She's at least 6 inches taller than average.   Probably more.   My son was 4 feet at that age and that was a little tall.   She may be clumsy because she's oversized.   Her shoe size sounds normal for her height.    Taller people have bigger feet.   She may not always stay so tall for her age though.   Kids slow down at times too.    My sister knew a girl who was over 5 feet in 4th grade.   Her adult height was 5 feet 4.   She just quit growing at a young age (like at age 10 or11).   If there are not alot of tall people in the family, she may just quit growing early and be a typical adult height.

It sounds like she is growing so fast that it's hard to adjust to her forever changing body.   That would make coordination  more difficult.   I think she'll come around when her growth slows down.

Could she join a track team?    Not sure if that sport is available to young girls but running doesn't involve much coordination.    Her long legs will give her an advantage over her same age peers.    I would look into that if I were you.

  5. My daughter is 4 and is tall and skinny. Her dad is 6-2 and she is 37 inches. and I think 40lbs.  She falls sometimes too.  Clumsy. etc. She is going to be tall like her dad. So I feel for you.
