Expain how the same chemical signal, such as a particular hormone, can have one effect on cell type A, a different effect on cell type B, and no effect on cell type C.

  1. It all depends on the receptors the cell has. Receptors usually begin a chain of events that usually affects transcription activity. A specific hormone can have several different receptors that begin different events, or some cells can have no receptors at all for that specific signal.

It depends upon a no. of factors, first one may be the presence or absence of receptors, second thing may be the involvment of second messengers. for an enzyme or hormone to show its action, some substrate may be required. The genes are expressed differentially in different organs, responsible for different actions among different cell populations by the same hormone.

    if DNA says for the signal to affect a certain cell in a certain way, it will.
