Question:

Help with Addiction for Computer??

by  |  earlier

When I wake up, I get my computer out. I go on AIM. I go on Yahoo!. I go on Toontown. I go on Stardoll. I go on ClubPenguin. All at the same time. I will be talking to anyone on AIM, even a robot. If there is no one, I will chat on a website. So I'll be on like 7 different things

Chatting

Playing

Asking Random Questions

I keep asking random questions and looking for a new friend. If I went on every website and I am done for the day, I will look for more or just stare at the page or scroll up and down or type nonsense. I have an addiction. I cannnot get off. I eat at the computer..

A few times, this happened:

Woke up. Went on the computer. Was on till 5 in the morning. Still was on till 5:30 PM. That is how long I stayed on.

How can I get over this??

  1. well i go on alot just cuz im bored but i know wen to stop you just need to stop its just a computer

  2. Go cold turkey...It was the same for me. I joined a gym, I took up rollerblading, boxing, skateboarding.

I'll go to the movies or watch a play. Eat out with friends. Hang out at a bar or club. Anything to keep my out of the house and off the computer. I spend 2 hrs max on the computer a day, no more than that.

  3. Do you have any friends? Well you gotta go out for Christ sake.

  4. Why don't you burn the computer?  Burn it! Break it!

  5. you need to find something else you like better then the computer that will occupy you..this isn't healthy. :(

  6. Have a trusted friend keep the computer for you. I don't know how old you are or anything so I can't suggest much to you. If you older, do you work with a computer. If your young, don't you go to school? Either way, you realized you have an addiction so just keep yourself away from the computer. The most important thing is to do something besides turning your computer on like eating or exercising or watching tv. And go out more with your friends or make new friends like you do online. I also had an addiction just like yours, with the computer, and now I limit myself to 3 hours a day. My addiction has gotten a lot better. :) good luck to you.

  7. I used to do this when I was single. Change your environment and it will change your habbits.  There's nothing wrong with technology, enjoy it. What I did was that I made sure that anytime I went on the computer, I learned something of "value". Pretty soon it bacame a chore. That and my wife keeps me busy.

  8. Get out of the house and have some fun with friends. Go out shopping or something. Ask a family member to put a password that no one even you knows. Then go out and do different things. Get out of the house.

Dont worry. You will get over it.....maybe your always on the pc cuz u have nothing else to do.....no offence!

  9. yea dude. get some friends and do soem sports. I use to be just like u till my friends made me go play with them.

  10. Try computer anonymous

  11. This is probably the best way if you are VERY seriously addicted (it sounds like you are). Password your comp with a very long and random password you wont remember. Write down the password on a piece of paper and leave it somewhere you wont be able to access for a while, for example your cottage. Since you wont be going to your cottage for a while, you wont be able to get the password

  12. Last summer every day i would play vmk ALL DAY

i was hopelessly addicted but then it closed

But i was still addicted to vmk magic and potc online

my mom put a password on my computer

maybe you can ask a family member to do that to limit yourself

  13. go out with friends, sleep at 10 or 11 DAILY (unless theres a party or something)

  14. Go cold turkey..get out of the house and do something!

  15. i will laugh in you face when your eyes bleed

  16. Its hard, but yo need to find something else that interest you, find a job or new hobby, even friends.

but while im a t work i don nothing and just browse like you.

email me when your bored! i always am!

  17. Go outside and get some fresh air, keep yourself busy is the best way.

  18. Ask your mother, father, brother or sister to hide your computer. Tell them to give it to you only on weekends with strict time limits for using it. Times you do not have the computer, do something productive like

read a book, help your mother in the kitchen, arrange/decorate your room, exercise or just go out with your friends.

  19. force yoursellf to get off the computer and find something fun to do

  20. If I answer this I would be a hypocrite. For I too am hypnotized by the powers of the almighty computer. XD

  21. the same thing happened to me just a few weeks ago. i have been on holiday. no school. no job. no one to talk to. noth to do. so just sticking at the laptop and doing the things blah blah blah.

but i think using the laptop for a long time surely reduce the productivity. so now i am vvolunteeringfor a charity fund raising! that is not quite fun. but much better than sticking at the computer, though.

so .. try to find out a way urself!

    good luck!

  22. I also had this problem. Find something constructive to do. Read, write, hang out with your friends (instead of chatting with them online), take a walk, exercise, help your parents around the house...

There's a lot you can do to help defeat your addiction. If you stay away from the computer while doing something that's still time-consuming in another way, you realize you don't exactly need the computer.

If it doesn't work, disconnect the computer. If you still want to be able to go online sometimes, tell someone to block some websites or set a password so you can't get on. Then the computer will become less appealing and you won't go on it as much. When you think you aren't addicted to it anymore, you can unblock the websites.

It's a huge commitment and it can take months, believe it or not. It took me 3 months, but I would sometimes spend over 15 hours a day online. It developed into a horrible case of insomnia, which I am now still working with.

    Good luck!

  23. Well I undertsnad you.And i think i understand that your making computer as your daily activity from or as an excuse for your ownself of runing and escaping from pressure work.

You need to get start by concentrating and clear up you mind.Think of what the benefits is that you would get from getting your hand on computers or head for books ? Both might make you so depressed that you rather go for computer. But what would hurt you more than if its not getting yourself punished by studying.Get use to books or make soemthing and even do soemthing as a hobby that might keep you busy from computer.Always alert yourself that even when you get to chat, does it benefits you so much.Aren't you happy enough to what you have had all this days.Your computer is yours,it won't run away from you.You could turn your computer into a little devil in your mind but you can always use it for the benefits for your own good when your mind knows what to do.

Remember, the computer is yours. It wont go way or disapear.Your free to use it but it doesn't mean you can spoil yourself with it.So its time for you to realize what is makingyou wasting your time all day long.Time your plan, time a schedule where you  can use your computer for sometime but remeber, not for long. All you need is being open minded and get use to your time plan.Manage your time properly.Use your computer wisely cause once you get on it its hard to shut it down.Im sure you can handle it properly as all you need is to manage yourself as your all grow up now,you know what to do.So why not get started,if not now then when ?

  24. well, it's simple. first you get a 20 gallon of pure jet fuel. second, you pour out the get fuel in your laptop. third you light up a match and ignite your laptop and then watch it melt. after that you won't have a problem with it.

  25. Go to McDonald's.

  26. omg you play toontown and clubpenguin?? ahh so do i. okay sorry. i had the same problem except i was addicted to JUST toontown i would stay up till 6 playing. why dont u try going outsidemore.. maybe with friends get into sports now that schools starting. do SOMETHING. dont play it for 2 days if u can. i became VERY unhealthy when i got addicted to toontown and i hope i never reach that far again

  27. keep on keeping on.....you will waste your life away, and u will be all good

  28. find somthing else to entertain your brain
