My almost 2 year old cat is adorable and we give her TONS of attention when we are home. She has fresh food, water and litter and LOTS of toys. She does not like other cats because when we take her outside and she sees them she hisses and growls. ANYWAY....when we go to bed at night she just started MEOWING like crazy, this sad mounful lonely like meow over and over. She usually sleeps with us and we NEVER close the door. She knows where we are but it's like she wants us to stay up and play with her. This just started a few weeks ago....anyone know why or what we can do about it. She is spayed and I am pretty sure she does NOT want another cat.

It is costing us a lot of sleep!

THANKS

  1. You do know cats are nocturnal right?  They sleep during the day, and are up at night?

I have 4 cats... Two sleep at night, the other two run around the house causing trouble.. I wake up in the middle of the night to one biting me trying to get me to play. ..

Cats were once completely feral creatures... They don't like rules, they don't like much of anything, no matter how lovable they seem..

I would say maybe just give her some attention before bed... try to push sleep on her.... let her know thats what she should do... although its not really a def to happen...

IF you got another cat, go for a kitten, because you want her to get use to the cat.. and the best way to do so is with a kitten... You COULD bring an adult in to the home, however you have to slowly go for meetings with them... Cats are very territorial..

They also don't change for no reason... a vet visit would be good .

  2. She may have you trained...our cat has done this to us too and we have just started to ignore it.  When we say, "Puppy...we are in the kitchen!" he comes running like he had NO idea where we were. LOL  It's funny and a bit strange.  Personally, I think our cat likes to hear himself talk.  We do have two other cats and they just look at him like he's a bit crazy.  So, I'm not sure why they do it, but you aren't alone.  Ours meows like mad...and you should hear him when we go out in the yard! OY!

  3. I have 4 cats and all of them act defiantly but sometimes they just want lots of attention all the time but they do sleep a lot to but you need a cat shrink or a cat trainer that mite help you out. Good luck cat lover.

  4. My cat does this too. It's sort of an instinctive behavior. When it's night, they like to prowl and the lonesome howl is a type of communication. It could be anything from a mating call, a territorial call, or just wondering why no one else is awake!

Usually if you talk or call to the cat they will hear you, get distracted and come back to sleep. If not, just close the door and let them enjoy their nighttime prowl!

  5. When was the last time she was to the vet? It could be she is not feeling well.

  6. get her trained
