Help with Avatar picture..!?

I used to be able to put personal pics as my avatar photo just fine. I recently got a mac and now have my pics on this computer. When I go to browse and select one of my pics from my picture file, and then click chose, nothing happens. It just basically gets stuck in loading mode. Why did it work with my old computer but not my mac? I just want to change my avatar photo and it doesnt work.

verify that you've updated java and flash players,

make sure page finishes loading before using browse/ choose,

well my brother has a mac and the pictures you can take them on the computer or upload them to your email well you i think have to do it from the photo booth ya know!
