My kids have asked for Belgian waffles as they had them at a restaurant last week, but I have no idea how to make them ! Does anyone have a recipe for me please ? Do I need a waffle maker ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

  1. I suppose you are referring to Liege waffles, which are not the same as Brussels waffles. You can find hundreds of recipes for making the batter on google and yes you will need a waffle iron. You can eat the  waffles with sugar, cream, chocolate, strawberries , grapes and so on. Bon appét*t.

  2. yes you will need a waffle iron/maker. But they are not very expensive. Our waffle iron came with a recipe book and their recipe was the greatest. We lost it so now we use this recipe from food network:

    2 cups cake flour

    2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    4 large eggs, separated

    2 tablespoons sugar

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

    2 cups milk

    melted butter for greasing

Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. In 1 medium bowl sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In a second bowl use the wooden spoon to beat together the egg yolks and sugar until sugar is completely dissolved and eggs have turned a pale yellow. Add the vanilla extract, melted butter, and milk to the eggs and whisk to combine. Combine the egg-milk mixture with the flour mixture and whisk just until blended. Do not over mix. In third bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer until soft peaks form, about 1 minute. Using the rubber spatula, gently fold the egg whites into the waffle batter. Do not overmix! Coat the waffle iron lightly with melted butter and pour enough batter in iron to just cover waffle grid. Close and cook as per manufacturer's instructions until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes. Serve immediately.

you can buy a cheap electric waffle iron from target for $18

Then you don't dish out too much if you find it is too timeconsuming. We got a more upscale one but we make waffles every second weekend. I usually make too many and then freeze the leftovers. That way they can be toasted for a quick breakfast.

I don't recommend buying the frozen finished ones. First of all my kids had them at a friends house and they said they taste like cardboard. Secondly you don't know what additives that has been used, and usually they use a cheap highly unhealthy fat instead of butter - they may likely contain trans fats which is very bad for your kids.

  3. You would need a waffle iron or electric waffle maker but the cheaper option would be to go the bread aisle in your supermarket and buy a pack of ready made ones.

You can pop these in the toaster for a little while - they will crisp up once removed from the toaster - then cover with toppings you fancy.

Toffee sauce, chopped banana and a little crushed chocolate is very naughty but very nice!

  4. As for the waffle maker you can useually find them in stores like Retravision or Myers (they only offer 3 models and after using them I would have to say that they're really no good as they are too thin and the best one they had cost me $65).

However a few week ago I was able to buy this really good one in ALDI (only $40 and if you want to see what it looks like go to youtube and type in "wolfgang puck waffle maker")

As for the recipe try this  http://www.recipezaar.com/50468 (its a copycat recipe for waffle house waffles)
