I'm in chemistry and I need help with homework. I did this along time ago and can't remember any of it.

Independent, Dependent, control, and constants.

The directions say "Identify the variables in the statement below"

1) The higher the temperature of water, the faster an egg will cook.

-What is the independent variable.

-What is the dependent variable.

I'm not asking you to do my homework so don't just give me a flat out answer please explain how you got your answer.

Thanks.

  1. i am not sure that i remember it correctly either, but i think the dependent variable is the one that depends on the independent variable, ie it changes because the independent variable changed.

so, what are you looking at here?  the temperature of water and the time an egg cooks.  you can change the temperature of the water, but you can't control the time the egg cooks, therefore, the temp of water is the independent variable and the time egg cooks is the dependent variable.

  2. okay..independent is the variable that the other depends on, the temperature. it effects the speed by which the egg cooks. the cooking time of the egg is obviously the dependent variable, because it depends on the temperature of the water.
