"Learning without thinking is labor lost; thinking without learning is dangerous"

What does this quotation mean?

I have my own thoughts on it, I just want to know what you all are thinking.

  1. oh you are so funny let me tell you.

  2. My interpretation of this quote would be something along the lines of:

One who pursues an education (could be formal or informal) with a 'closed-mind' is in other words ignorant.  This ignorance hinders the true abilities of one's educational value and hence, "labor lost."

The same goes for "thinking without learning."  One must keep an open mind about things and be able to accept the notion of new ideas and propositions.

'An open mind is the key to conquering one's ignorance'
