  1. steam helps boil a kettle and let the baby breathe in the steam but make sure you dont burn the baby.

  2. My son is suffering from it now and he is 5, if you take him to your GP he will only advise to put him in a room with steam. I have sat my son in the bathroom with a bath full of steaming water.  My first experience I was terrified, we took him to the hospital and they gave him a steroid on his tongue which worked in seconds, they will only give this though in extreme cases. I would stick to steaming.

  3. My son had croup last year for the first time and it was the most scariest experience seeing my poor baby coughing like that and gasping for breath, i didnt know what was wrong so took him straight to a & e who diagnosed croup and was perfectly fine as quickly as it developed it had gone again!!

He had it again about a month ago and new what to do and he was fine!!

  4. Sitting in a bathroom with hot tap on sweating myself to exhaustion with coughing child on lap. Oh what fun nights they were. I don't envy you but a steamy room really does help.

  5. Take your son to a doctor.

  6. I have had it all my life and now my son gets croup.  Other than getting a breathing treatment from the doctor, run steaming hot water in the shower, close the bathroom door close the shower curtain and let him stand outside of the tub but stick his head in to breath up the steam and this helps sometimes.  Don't let him get burned by the water of course.  If it gets to bad get to the doctor it can be scary.

  7. My daughter had this 2 or 3 times.  She was 3 or 4 months the first time.  Be glad he is older and can communicate if he is having trouble breathing after a couching splurt.

Steam is the best.  Vaporizors and sitting in the bathroom with the shower at its hottest.  Also, keep a good eye at night while he is sleeping, prop him up.  You may want to take him right to the doctor, they tried a steriod shot with my daughter once and it cleared very quickly.

  8. Are you sure it is croup is the first thing. Depending on where you live, it is possible that there are seasonal allergies that couple be agrivating him and causing him to cough like this in the early hours of the morning. That is easy to treat with the right medication. Getting him checked would rule that and asthma is the first place to start.

I would also encourage him to drink some cold water and if it is really bad is to run the shower until it is steamy in the bathroom and have him sit in there. But again, getting him checked out by the doctor is the first place to start with this.
