  1. international DVD's will work in your PC! Just not domestic players (i.e. the one next to your telly).

if it's reading as a blank CD -I'm guessing the relatives didn't "finalise" the dvd when they made it.

There's nothing you can do except request a new copy - and ask em to test it before they send it.

  2. Heres your problem.. their different region formats.. I live in the US and if you notice on our DVDs there is a globe with the number 1 on it.. your number in england is different from the number 1 the US has and another number assigned in australia.. i dont want to scare you and get to specific .. but your problem is your DVD player.. if your ever at a electronic store look for a " Region Free " DVD player.. they are really hard to find tho so dont just give up after a minute or 2.. i worked at best buy in the home theater department and can tell you there IS 1 specific dvd player that plays all region DVDs (even though its ilegal-i think) it does the job without most people knowing.. so yea  your problem is your dvd player

  3. Why were your relatives seding dvd'd to the uk  when they are on Region 4 ??? You will have to get your player changed

to a multi-region player, dvdhacks.com is good, or look on google " how to convert my player to multi-region "

  4. you must have been scammed....

if they are showing blank on the computer... they are blank...

if that isn't true... i dunno why...

  5. No - there is a way around it - wish I could tell you how to do it though.  Every DVD is "REGIONAL CODED" according to the country they come from, and I understand you can set some DVDs to override this and play the disc - try this link it may help you.  Good Luck

  6. UK and Australia both use PAL format, 25 frame rate, so they SHOULD be compatible.

Region codes are applied to commercial DVDs.  Although the region code is different between Australia and the UK, such codes are not established on home-made DVDs.

It is strongly possible that the DVDs are simply improperly burned for playback on other units.

One thing I've experienced is occasionally, I can try playing a normal commercial DVD movie in my computer, and it only sees a blank CD, not a video DVD.  Windows is hoggy and causes steadily dwindling RAM and processor resources.  Rebooting frees up those resources and the DVD will then be recognized.  I don't just exactly why that is, but your problem MAY be related to limited available memory in your computer.

  7. If you want to see the DVDs from Australia you must change the settings of your PC.

Go to control panel ,select "System",Device manager and from here select the DVD unit right click on it and then select "Proprieties".Here you will find region code set and you can change it by select the country where the DVD was made.

Be careful there are a limited number of times you can make those changes!!!

    Good luck!!!!
