If I have a PC monitor with VGA and DVI ports I'm actually using the VGA ports for my PC so the DVI is useless. Now I want to connect the PC to the TV (to show the PC on the TV) would it work if I buy a DVI cable and plug it in from the monitor to the TV?

  1. To connect to both your monitor and a TV from your PC, you would need a video card with 2 outputs.  For example if you got a video card with both VGA and DVI, you could run the VGA to your existing monitor and DVI to the TV (with either a DVI cable, or DVI to HDMI cable if the TV has HDMI).

Or most LCD TV's also have a VGA port (sometimes called 15-pin RGB).  And most video cards with VGA and DVI include a DVI to VGA adapter, since that DVI socket has both digital and analog signals.

  2. NO!!!!!!  You must go from the PC to the TV with some type of cable.  The inputs on monitor are not outputs.
