Help with East and West Germany before reunification?

Can anyone tell me what the following things were like in East and West Germany, before re-unification even if you only know a couple:

Industry,

Environment,

Jobs,

Symbols,

Architecture,

Statues,

Ideologies,

Transport.

East Germans couldn't travel to the West. They could travel free only to other socialist country: Czechoslovakia,Hungary,Poland,USSR.

Exception: For aged people (more 60)  

GDR (Former East Germany) was proclamated as "the first state of workers and countrymenin the whole German history".

An official ideology was Marxism-Leninism.

There was a special chain of storeys(GDR) where you could buy everything from West for 2-4 more than other storeys if you pay with Western currency (US Dollar, German Mark,British Pound etc)
